preferably of the historical kind, but i really will take anything.

something fun about post-university life is that i am now wholly responsible for what i study, and (fun fact!) i seriously considered pursuing a history degree before i got into law. since i’m not currently feeling very fannish i thought i’d use my downtime to revisit an old love instead, and, well. there is so much to read i don’t know where to start.

i am currently (very slowly) reading richard english’s history of the IRA. if it helps: my interest has always been 20th century political history centric (esp. soviet/cold war) but, again, will take anything. my TBR list can never be too long.

all this crossposting recently has once again brought up the question of what the hell do you do with fic that no longer sparks joy? deleting feels like a waste but orphaning gives up too much control. i have, like, 150 fics published on anon right now but even then, that doesn't feel right, either? i tried making a secondary account once just for stuff i no longer vibed with but ended up transferring everything back.

i've been writing fic since i was 10? 11? and the things written from roughly age 14 onwards exist somewhere on ao3. i'll be the first to admit that a lot of it is Not Good, but a lot of it means something to me in one way or another, so the idea of getting rid of it makes me feel :/ despite the fact that i can't really look at it without cringing. some of it got really popular, too, and to this day i still receive kind comments on some of the x-men stuff, so it's one of those things where it's like, i want it to exist so they can enjoy it? but also oh god don't make me look at it. i don't know!

one of my biggest gripes with the l&o fandom is the lack of critical thought in some discussion of the show(s), or even just, like. the lack of understanding of why people might criticise the franchise, especially svu. and as much as it’s been a life-long fandom (lol) for me, i have no shortage of issues with it, and, yeah, no one wants to have to take a course to have fun in fandom, but i genuinely think it’s good to be aware of this stuff, and i know some people in my flist will be interested, so:

a couple months ago, i helped a friend compile a list of texts that touch on svu & related theory. it’s hosted on her tumblr but tumblr has also tried to nuke her a couple of times, so i’m going to link to the reblog on my svu-specific sideblog. if you decide to read though it and have any issues with links, let me know! i host the files so i should be able to fix things or give you a backup link.
